Who Moved to Montana?

Montana State University's Community Development Extension researched homeowners that had purchased between 2016-2021 and asked a series of questions about choosing Montana as a place to live and their current satisfaction. Their top five findings for the move were:

To find a desirable natural environment (better access to the outdoors)
To find a less congested place to live
To take advantage of a slower pace of life
To live in a smaller community
To find a safer place to live

Of note 44% of the respondents already lived in Montana but were moving to a new location (zip code) with 21-27% stating that their spouse or they had lived in the community before. The rest came from out of state interestingly from other western states ... California 8%, Washington 8%, Colorado 5% and 3% from both Oregon and Idaho.
