Things to Avoid After Applying
for a Mortgage or Refinancing
|
Refinancing or taking out a new mortgage can take upwards of two months from start to finish. That's a long time to remember to refrain from several activities that can make a mess of your loan, or at least cause you lost time in explanations. Probably the
easiest "no-no" to forget is transferring money (especially a larger sum) from one account to another because lenders need to source and track your assets. Another "no-no" is doing the quick sign-up for a store credit card to take advantage of a special that store is offering, or taking out a new loan to purchase a car (new or used). Basically it's not a good idea to sign up for new credit when you are in the midst of a real estate loan.

There is no hiding our inventory problem for active Buyers right now. This chart, shown for 2020-2021, captures by price range, the number of months supply of homes for sale. Its a stark reality of the challenges faced in finding
suitable housing options, especially under $500,000 (Blue Line) and even $500K-$750K (Yellow Line) in NW Montana. From $750-$1 Million (Purple Line) and over $1 Million (Red Line) there are a reasonable amount of choices albeit definitely down from prior years.
